| Chef. Wizard. Reclaimer. Savior of the world. A year in a city can change a lot, but at his core, Taako is still mostly the same- distrustful, flamboyant, and brash on the outside with a softer core only a select few ever see. Despite his offputting nature, he's found solace in his family and even some friendships in people outside of his home- though those are few and far between. Taako still doesn't trust like others, but his presence has changed others; and as he's loathe to admit, they have changed him in turn. After going home twice, regaining memories and experiences, Taako's goal is still clear- kill the Gods. Escape the city. Protect those he holds dear. But the more people he meets, and the more that he can't take with him if he leaves, that goal is getting messier and harder to achieve. However, having been here the longest out of his family, he knows he carries a legacy no one else has. Now, to stop that from consuming him. |

In Hadriel, they've really only gotten closer now being the two from their home here the longest- with Magnus dipping in and out and forgetting some of their earlier trauma, Merle has become to Taako a force that reminds him he's truly not alone. Even in places where his experiences might be more unique, Merle is there being his usual self- levitating chairs into the sides of buildings, planning death parties with wooden baby explosions, and giving horribly inappropriate Candlenights gifts. It's wonderful, really. If all else goes to shit, at least he can count on Merle to come give him that shit right back.

This is especially on the forefront of his mind lately thanks to god events that boiled down to Lup's death at Kravitz' hands; he always imagined this sort of action would separate them entirely, or that he could never place someone at Lup's level in caring for him. But as much as Taako insists he doesn't latch onto people, Kravitz has made it to a level of care he didn't think he could ever give to another person.
Now, if he'll ever say those words... well, that remains to be seen.

Regardless of how he should be treated, Angus is a grounding force for Taako, not only in morality but just in the goodness of the world. Angus sees the better in things, continues to fall for his gags, and despite his bullshit continues to adore him. As far as he's concerned, that's a major win-win. And while he may have a hard time saying that out loud, it shows through in (at least some) of his actions- or at least how quickly Taako is willing to cut down anything that might be in the way of his beautiful magical boy.

Even through their ups and downs in Hadriel, Barry has become one of Taako's most trusted people- while sometimes Taako has to knock some sense into him, the undercurrent of him is a calming and important force in Taako's life. He's one of the few people that can do anything negative to him and have Taako actually fight to get him to stay, an accomplishment not found by many others. In the end, whether he's being greeted with a joking cake or sharing an emotional moment under the sunset, Barry is someone Taako will always want right by his side.

More than that, Carey's caught Taako off guard on more than one occasion just by being disarmingly sincere. She has convictions and a strong heart, which is something Taako doesn't exactly know how to deal with sometimes- it's something he's learned to deal with in Magnus, but not in her, when there isn't a hundred year trip on a close quarters ship to have for context. Still, she's willing to have a good time- and maybe the feelsy stuff will come later. (It won't.)

On top of all of this, Cecily's one of the only people in the city so far to catch Taako off-guard; after stumbling into a rather personal moment of hers, he managed to find some catharsis even in complaining. He feels like he's crossed some sort of boundary, or at least that he's let her too close too quickly, but only time will tell how it all shakes out. For now, he figures that won't be the last he sees of her; hopefully in a time when they're both less emotionally vulnerable.

In truth, their relationship so far is mostly playful- Taako makes jokes, Nate gives him shit for it, and they look good together doing it. There's not much more Taako can ask for out of this city, and he wants nothing more than to keep this light and playful so he can mess around as long as he wants. In fact, Taako may go to lengths to make sure this doesn't get serious- but only time will tell if Hadriel drags him down into the emotional hellpit all over again.

On top of all this, Taako finds himself curious of the world she comes from; she claims not to know anything about magic, but nearly took him out with an incredible fire attack from around a corner, and had no understanding of how his magic worked. While picking her brain puts him at a disadvantage, he can't deny his curiosity, and may attempt to get a little more out of her in the future.
